Jodie Primeau

Jodie-Lee Primeau earned her LL.B. from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Ontario Bar in June 2010 after completing her articles at Webber Schroeder Goldstein Abergel in Ottawa.

Jodie’s commitment to criminal law began before law school through her volunteer work with the Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa and Circles of Support and Accountability. During law school, she served on the executive of the Criminal Law Students’ Association and was a Division Leader in the criminal law division of the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic. In that role, she represented clients facing criminal and provincial offences and helped supervise other law students.

Jodie joined Webber Schroeder Goldstein Abergel while completing her final year of law school. She articled with the firm following graduation and remained there as an associate until moving to Kingston in 2011.

In Kingston, Jodie expanded her practice to include prison and correctional law. She represented individuals incarcerated at Kingston Penitentiary, Millhaven Institution, Frontenac Institution and Joyceville Institution in proceedings involving Criminal Code charges, Controlled Drugs and Substance Act charges, institutional disciplinary matters and issues arising under the Corrections and Conditional Release Act.

In 2013, Jodie joined Queen’s Law Clinics, where she co-taught Clinical Litigation and supervised and mentored law students representing clients before courts and administrative tribunals. She was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Kingston. By bringing the two organizations together, Jodie founded a bail-support program designed to address barriers to release faced by women being held in pretrial custody.

Jodie has practiced criminal law since 2010. She has represented clients charged with drug offences, sexual offences, assault, impaired driving, dangerous driving, robbery, weapons offences, theft, fraud and other Criminal Code offences. She has also assisted senior counsel in murder cases and has experience working with clients in Youth Court and Mental Health Court. She brings careful preparation, sound judgment and determined advocacy to every matter.

Outside her legal practice, Jodie represented Canada as an age-group triathlete at the 2017 World Triathlon Championships in Rotterdam. She has delivered keynote addresses and conference presentations on women in law, business and leadership and has appeared on podcasts and in Canadian Lawyer magazine.

Jodie practices primarily in Renfrew County at the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice in Pembroke, Ontario. She represents clients charged with Criminal Code offences in Eastern Ontario. Jodie has participated in numerous professional and community organizations, including the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, the Renfrew County Law Association, the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, Toastmasters International, Ironstride Triathlon Team and the Deep River Players.
